Calcium is one of the most essential minerals that our body requires. It strengthens our bones, which gives shape to our bodies and an ability to stand still. The deficiency of calcium causes soft bones, bone fractures and others further leading to the disintegration of the entire body. It is a misfortune that some of the foods that we consume absorbs high amount of calcium from our body which leads to the deficiency as well. Let us now look and analyze the five major foods that drain calcium out of our body.
- Salt: For every 2.3g of salt that we consume about 40mg of calcium is pushed out of the body through urine. The high amount of salt consumption increases acidity of the blood and consequently , the body uses calcium present in the bones to neutralize blood PH ,which eventually leads to bone resorption and calcium deficiency. As said above, with increased consumption of salt, the loss of calcium from the body through urine is more.
- Sugar: This is also one of the major sources that leads to deficiency of calcium in the human body. Sugar reduces the absorption of calcium and increases renal acid load. Several researches show that with the consumption of beverages that are loaded with sugar increases the chance of bone fractures three times more than in the people who take less sugary beverages. According to a study, when 100gms of sugar is injected to the body of an individual, it is noticed that excretion of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium in urine was significantly high. high Intake of sugar stimulates insulin secretion, high plasma insulin blocks the calcium reabsorption from the kidney, This process also contribute to the deficiency of calcium.
- Alcohol: This prevents the absorption of calcium from the gut and leads to the imbalance of acid base of calcium in the blood.
- Fluoride: When a study was conducted by the scientists between water with and without fluoride, the results proved that the people who consumed water with fluoride had more chances of bone fractures.
- Phosphoric Acid: Soft drinks such as soda, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, lime juice and many other carbonated beverages loot calcium from our bodies, and further decreases calcium absorption and reduces the density of bones. This leads to the disintegration of the entire body.
Therefore, it is very important to avoid such foods that are high in the above said components and let us pledge to stay strong and maintain healthy bones for a better life. They are the real looters of a healthy body and mind. Do you now agree with the given title?
